Daniel Rocha, Director
I had the good fortune to, quite literally, be raised in a preschool. While other children heard stories of distant lands or great baseball legends, my bed time stories were about Reggio Emilia, Maria Montessori, and Arnold Gesell. I have had the unique experience of attending my mother's family daycare and watching my parents collaborate on and run what would become Carlsbad Village Children's Center. Twenty years later, after having held such titles as Chief Taste Tester and (most importantly) Chief Toy Tester, I jumped at the chance to collaborate with my parents in the creation of yet another unique and thoughtful program: Children's Villages Child Development Center.
After attending Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, I returned to San Diego to begin work in the corporate world. It did not suit me. I realized that I do not really like shoes. And, more importantly, I realized that I deeply believe in the work that my family has done my entire life: educate children and their families. I worked as a swim instructor at the Magdalena Ecke YMCA in Encinitas while I went back to school at MiraCosta College. I now exceed the requirements for both the California Master Teacher and Site Supervisor Child Development Permits with a dual specialization in Creative Arts and Infant-Toddler Care. I am a fully qualified infant-toddler and preschool teacher and a fully qualified director under California Title 22 regulations.
Children's Villages has been a labor of love for me. It allows me the chance to highlight, promote, and share with you and your children the values with which I was raised. I look forward to meeting you and your family and welcoming you to our community of learners and explorers, and (to paraphrase Shel Silverstein) wishers and dreamers and magic bean buyers!
